Overview

The modern company was founded in Switzerland in 1995 as a revival of the name of John Arnold, the English chronometer maker who worked in London from the 1760s and whose marine timekeepers contributed to practical longitude navigation. There is no manufacturing or corporate continuity between the two: the founding year recorded here is the Swiss company's, and an eighteenth-century Arnold chronometer is an unrelated object sharing a name. Part of the Citizen group through La Joux-Perret since 2012, which builds its movements. Its distinguishing work places movement architecture on the dial side, where it can be watched rather than merely inferred.

Notable innovations

  • · DSTB, a true-beat seconds mechanism mounted on the dial side
  • · Time Pyramid, a going train arranged as a vertical elevation
