Overview
Founded at Les Bois in the Jura in 1830 by the brothers Louis-Victor and Célestin Baume as Baume Frères, and renamed in 1918 when William Baume partnered with Paul Mercier in Geneva. Part of Richemont since 1988. Its historical distinction is external and performance-based rather than promotional: Baume Frères took Kew Observatory precision awards, granted on measured timing under independent test. The Riviera of 1973 belongs to the same design wave as the Royal Oak and the Nautilus and was revived in 2021.
