Overview
The couture house dates from 1910 and its watchmaking from 1987, with the Première. The J12 of 2000, designed by Jacques Helleu, was among the watches that made high-tech ceramic an ordinary case material. Unusually for a fashion house, Chanel owns movement capacity: it holds a minority stake in Kenissi, the movement manufacturer majority-owned by Tudor, and the J12's Calibre 12.1 — COSC-certified, 4 Hz, 70 hours — is a Kenissi movement derived from Tudor's MT5600 family. The 2016 Monsieur de Chanel introduced its first fully in-house caliber.
