Overview

Founded at Lengnau in 1917 by the brothers Fritz, Ernst and Werner Schlup as Schlup & Co., a movement-making business; the Rado name was adopted for watches in 1957 and subsequently became the company's. Part of the Swatch Group since 1983. Its identity rests on materials: the DiaStar of 1962 was marketed as the first scratchproof watch, using hardmetal, and the brand led the industry's adoption of high-tech ceramic from the 1980s.
