Overview

Founded at Besançon in 1948 by Henry Louis Belmont, and the most significant French watch brand of the twentieth century. Besançon was the centre of French watchmaking and had its own observatory chronometer certification, marked by the Vipère poinçon. The Superman of 1963 introduced a hinged bezel-locking bridge that has been carried on every generation since, and a Yema Spationaute was worn by Jean-Loup Chrétien on the Soyuz T-6 flight to Salyut 7 launched on 24 June 1982 — the first French watch worn in space. The brand supplied the French armed forces and now produces its own caliber.
