Hermès leather strap

Probable

The single most informative component on any Hermès watch. Made by a house whose principal competence has been leather since 1837, to standards the watch industry generally does not attempt — saddle stitching, hand-finished and burnished edges, and leather selected and tanned in-house. A counterfeiter who has solved the case and the dial still has to solve this, and fine leatherwork is a separate trade.

Scope The highest-value gap on the brand, because the catalog nominates the strap as primary evidence and then describes it in prose. Leather quality is a judgement made by eye and hand, and a comparative photographic reference — stitch pitch, edge section, the underside stamps — would convert a description into something an examiner can hold a strap against.
