Caseback
Screw-down caseback with reference and serial engraving
ProbableModern Panerai casebacks are screw-down and carry the PAM reference, the individual serial and, on limited editions, the edition numbering. On display-back references the sapphire is secured in a screw-down ring. The engraving is machine-cut with even depth.

- Brand
- Panerai
- Material
- Stainless steel, titanium or precious metal to match the case
- Identifying marks
- Engraving cut cleanly with consistent stroke depth and letterform. Laser-etched text with shallow, rounded strokes where machine engraving is expected is a counterfeit indicator. The back should thread smoothly and seat fully.

ServiceProbableWhole production
A caseback replaced at service carries a correct reference and serial while having no original relationship to the watch — which is why the engraving identifies the caseback and not the watch.
