Strap

Aquanaut composite strap

High confidence

The Aquanaut's strap is a moulded composite carrying an embossed pattern that echoes the dial's, shaped to continue the case lines at the lugs. Patek describes it as highly resistant to salt water, wear and ultraviolet light, which is what distinguishes it from an ordinary rubber strap.

Identifying marks
The embossed pattern registers with the dial's and runs true; the strap meets the case with no gap and no step. The buckle or deployant is signed and finished to case standard. Aftermarket composite straps for the model are widely sold and are generally softer, with a less crisply moulded pattern.

Straps are consumable and are replaced routinely, including with third-party composites. A configuration and value observation of low significance; it is not evidence against the watch, and treating a replaced strap as suspicious on a thirty-year-old watch would be unreasonable.
