Bezel insert

6309-7040 bezel insert

Probable

Printed 60-minute insert with a luminous pip at zero. Aluminium inserts fade, chip and lose their pip lume over decades of wear, so an original insert on a 1970s or 1980s watch shows damage as a matter of course. Reproduction inserts for this case are among the most widely manufactured watch parts in existence.

  • Original factory insert

    FactoryProbable

    19761988

Fading and pip degradation consistent with the rest of the watch.

  • Aftermarket reproduction insert

    AftermarketHigh confidence

    Whole production

Sharper printing, a brighter modern pip, and colour that does not match the watch's ageing. Extremely common and usually a straightforward replacement of a worn part — this should be recorded and then largely set aside, not treated as a signal about the watch's authenticity.

Documented on these references

  • 19761988

Factory insert for the export Turtle.

  • 19761988

Shared with the -7040; the market code does not change the case parts.

  • Whole production

The JDM and export Turtles share the case and its bezel parts; the difference between them is in the movement.
