Test the complication rather than inspecting the dial
Set the watch to just before the hour and watch. The hour disc should change instantaneously with no creep, and the minute hand should snap back to zero as it reaches sixty. A functional test of a demanding complication is stronger evidence than any amount of dial examination, and it costs a few minutes.
