The movement behind the Luminor Marina references that established the modern brand. Its pocket-watch ancestry is the reason a Luminor is as large as it is and the reason the small seconds sit at 9 rather than at 6 — the movement is rotated in the case. Identifying it correctly matters because the expected appearance is a 6497 architecture carrying Panerai finishing, not a Panerai-designed layout.

Architecture

Service practice

The 6497 is among the most widely available ébauches in the industry, so generic service parts fit and are used. A watch rebuilt with undecorated generic components runs correctly and does not look right; that is an originality finding rather than an authenticity one, and the distinction should survive into the report.
