What to inspect

The value gap between the two references and the single-digit difference between their case numbers create an obvious incentive. Inspect the final digit of the caseback stamping under magnification for inconsistent depth, stroke width or alignment against the neighbouring characters, and check that the crown size agrees with the number.

What to inspect

Original 62MAS dials are scarce and reproductions are readily available. Print quality of the depth text, the tone and texture of aged tritium, and the shape of the applied markers are the comparison points. A refinished dial should be recorded as a refinish rather than as a fake; the two are different findings with very different consequences.
