FactoryWater 70m Proof
Depth wording rendered as 'Proof' at 9 o'clock, paired with a 'Proof'-marked caseback. First-year configuration.
Dial
FactoryWater 70m Resist
Later wording, adopted across Seiko as the industry moved away from the unqualified 'waterproof' claim. A 'Resist' dial in an early case, or a 'Proof' dial in a late one, is a mismatch worth resolving — most often a service dial, occasionally a swap.
Production Changes
- c. 1970
'Proof' dial and caseback wording replaced by 'Resist'
Rest-of-world 6139-600x dials changed from 'Water 70m Proof' to 'Water 70m Resist', with the caseback marking following. North American -6005 and -6009 examples are reported as 'Resist' from the outset, so the transition is a rest-of-world one and cannot be applied to every 6139.
Component compatibility
What this reference is documented to have carried, and in what capacity. A service part is the manufacturer's own work; only a counterfeit classification is a finding against the watch.
