The integrated bracelet is the expensive part to copy correctly

The bracelet meets the case with no gap and no spring bar, and the taper, the link articulation and the butterfly clasp are held to tolerances that counterfeits routinely miss. Look at the join: a visible step, a rattle, or a bracelet that can be levered away from the case indicates a conventional lug hidden under a cosmetic cover. Look also at the clasp — genuine clasps close with a defined double click and are stamped, not cast.

Case thickness is a constraint a counterfeit cannot easily meet

The automatic PRX is 10.9mm over a 40mm case, and the flat tonneau profile is the point of the design. Counterfeits built around a taller generic movement come out visibly thicker and lose the flatness the model exists for. Measure it: a PRX noticeably over 11mm is carrying a movement it should not.

1853 is a date, not a model, and its printing quality is informative

Every modern Tissot dial carries the founding year under the wordmark. Its presence proves nothing. Its EXECUTION is useful: on genuine dials the four digits are small, even and sharply defined, and on counterfeits they are the first element to thicken or smear, because they are the smallest printing on the dial. Judge the printing, and ignore the number as an identifier.

Watch the seconds hand before opening anything

The Powermatic 80 beats at 21,600 vph, which gives the seconds hand six steps per second against the eight of a 4 Hz movement. The difference is visible to a practised eye and measurable by anyone with a timing app. A PRX Powermatic 80 sweeping at eight beats per second contains something else — most often a cheap automatic, occasionally a Chinese clone of a 2824. This is the single fastest check on the model and it requires no tools.
