The monocoque construction is the model's identity and its most useful authentication property, because it constrains what the watch can be rather than merely how it looks. It also has a practical consequence an owner will meet: servicing requires removing the crystal, so a Commander cannot be opened by an unequipped watchmaker in the ordinary way, and the crystal seal rather than a caseback gasket is what governs its water resistance.
