SKX J and K suffixes: what they actually establish
Do the SKX J and K designations record the country of assembly, or only the origin marking required by the destination market?
Best current answer
The suffixes reliably indicate the destination market and correspond to documented dial-text and caseback differences. They are recorded on that basis and no country of manufacture is asserted from them.
Conflicting claims
Long-running disagreement in the Seiko community. One position holds that J watches were assembled in Japan and K watches elsewhere; another that all movements came from the same facility and the letters reflect only import origin-marking requirements. No manufacturer statement resolving it has been located, and the question is complicated by assembly and movement production potentially having different answers.
