The specification worth understanding is the oscillator. A standard quartz watch runs a 32,768 Hz crystal; Bulova's high-frequency movements run at 262 kHz — eight times faster — which is what allows the seconds hand to sweep smoothly rather than step, and what supports the chronograph's very fine timing resolution. The smooth sweep is therefore CORRECT on a quartz Bulova and is not evidence of a mechanical movement or of a substitution.
