The absence of a side crown is a real identification aid and a frequent source of confusion: an owner who cannot find the crown often concludes the watch is broken. Setting is done from the back. The 218 that followed in 1966 moved the crown to the case side at four o'clock, so crown position separates the two generations at a glance.
