Bracelet
Ceramic links chip and cannot be adjusted, only removed
A ceramic bracelet is sized by removing links and a damaged link is replaced rather than repaired. Expect chips at link edges on a worn example and no scratches on the faces. A ceramic-appearance bracelet with bent links, or with scratch haze across the faces, is coated metal. Where a link has been replaced through Chanel's service network, that is a service part and not a marriage.
Case
Thermal behaviour separates ceramic from coated steel in seconds
High-tech ceramic conducts heat poorly. Held in the hand it stays cool markedly longer than steel and never acquires a warm metallic feel. The standard J12 counterfeit is black-coated steel, and it fails this test immediately, with no tools and no reference material. Corroborate with weight — ceramic is lighter than steel of the same bulk — and with the scratch pattern.
Case
Read the damage the right way round
Ceramic is very hard and comparatively brittle: it should show no fine scratch haze after years of wear, and it chips or cracks under impact where steel would dent. An examiner trained on steel reads scratches as ordinary wear and a chip as abuse, and on ceramic that inference is exactly backwards. A scuffed J12 case is a material finding; a chipped one is merely damaged — and the chip is corroboration that the material is real.

The caliber is a Kenissi movement and is documented as one
Through the display back, expect a properly finished Swiss manufacture automatic with a Chanel-signed rotor, running at 28,800 vph with COSC certification. Because Calibre 12.1 derives from Tudor's MT5600 family, its architecture is well documented and comparable against a known relative. A generic movement, or a quartz module, behind a Calibre 12.1 dial is conclusive.
